Choose Your Oil Type
The oil that we use for our services is primarily Motul oil which is a brand that manufactures 100% synthetic lubricants and also synthetic blends as well. Motul has won awards based on its’ products and continue to serve outstanding products. We also have other brands available such as Liqui Moly, Mobil 1, Castrol, Eneos, Shell, and Pennziol oil upon request. For most vehicles, you can choose which oil to use but usually you want to go with whichever oil you have used in the past. At Boulevard Auto, we have historical records of all services performed so if you do forget, you can always ask us what oil type you received on your last visit.
What’s the difference between full synthetic and regular oil?
The main difference between the two is that regular oil comes directly from crude oil and synthetic oil is basically a modified version of regular oil with much added lubrication. The added lubrication helps keeps the engine more slick, especially at higher temperatures and may make your engine last longer. Synthetic oil also doesn’t break down as easily nor does it leave much deposits when it sits inside the engine, which allows you to get more oil out of your oil change. It will be best if you choose the oil that you have been putting in the past. There are several ways to find out what you put for your last oil change. One way is to call the last auto repair shop you brought it to and ask them if they have past records of maintenance servicing on your vehicle. The other way is to check CarFax. We are accredited with CarFax so if you want to access your records, every service is uploaded to the CarFax database where you can access it. If you don’t know which one to choose, it's best to choose synthetic especially for newer cars. Older cars can get away with using conventional oil and it is a popular choice for really old cars older than 2005.
Oil Change Advice
Oil needs to be serviced every couple of months depending on how often you drive the vehicle. The best indicator to determine when you should bring your car for the next service should be based on the amount of mileage the car has driven. If you had gotten a synthetic oil change, our recommendation is every 5,000 miles. For regular oil, every 3,000 miles. The more frequent you bring your car in for a change, the longer your engine should last. Please do not drive when you have not changed your oil in a long time! This will ruin your engine if you are driving with low or no oil. Cars are prone to wear overtime and so does the components regarding your engine so it’s important to bring your car for inspection especially if you notice any leakage, lights.
What Happens When I Don’t Change My Oil?
If you don’t change your oil, it can cause minor to severe problems depending on the engine and how long you go without changing the oil. Worse case scenario your looking at a new engine, best case scenario - well there’s really no best case scenario here as it will affect the performance of your engine long term. It may seem fine in the short run but after years of driving, the effects can become more prevalent over time. At Boulevard Auto, we recommend oil to be changed frequently and that you should bring in your car based on the amount of miles you drive!
If you’ve been told that your oil is still dirty even after an oil change, it can mean there is still dirty contaminants within the engine. This happens usually due to prolonged and infrequent services that should have been done earlier and more frequently. The build up inside the engine causes the oil to not perform at the fullest. What we recommend is if your oil is still dirty, you can perform an oil flush which is a service where we add an engine flush solvent to break down the contaminants. It is best to perform an engine flush right after a fresh oil change, which would result in being billed for two oil changes and the flush solvent at the end of the day. You can however, come in a lot sooner if you don't want to do it twice in a row.
